Postcards to Myself - Brazil, 1987
We went to Brazil to spend Christmas and New Year. First we stayed in a small town north of Sao Paolo called Porto Ferreira where we spent Christmas with our Swiss friends from Taiwan in their new home. Mom got me a My Little Pony and some cassettes. After a couple of days, we went to Rio de Janeiro and stayed on Copacabana Beach. The water was cold and dirty. One evening we were walking on the beach and I saw a guy pull out a gun and try to shove another guys face in the sand. The guy with the gun started yelling at me. I was frozen with fear. Dad who had not noticed and walked away, came rushing back to pull me away! In Rio we went up to the Christ Statue and Pao da Sucar for a splendid view of Rio. We also visited Petropolis and as we were driving back, we got stuck in a terrible flood! We are now at dads’ unkles’ house in Sao Paulo. Dad has a lot of family here.
