We have a huge house here in Caracas, so half the family came over to visit from Germany and Switzerland. First we took them to Canaima “The Lost World”, to see the famous Tepuis and the Angel Falls, the worlds’ highest waterfall 979 meters! It was the most spiritual experience of my life! We left at the crack of dawn on a small wooden boat, then trecked 7km through the jungle up to the Salto de Angel. On our way back, our boat got stuck in the river, because of the low tide, so the guys had to get into the water and push, keeping an eye out for the piranhas! The next day, we took a DC-3 plane over the Angel Falls, so we could have an aerial view of this most spectacular and unique landscape. Some days later, we all took two small propellar planes to Los Roques islands, 35min from Caracas. On the way there, smoke came out of the dashboard of the plane mom and Alex were in. The pilot said not to worry. We all made it there safe and sound! Took a small boat from island to island, snorkeling and sunbathing. Now we are in Morrocoy National Park, three and a half hours drive from Caracas. There are lots of Mangroves. Again we took a small wooden boat through them, making stops on beaches. On the way back, our boat started filling up with water and Tante Renate was freaking out! She was scared we’d sink in these alligator infested waters!
